Mother Theresa of Calcutta said : “ I got to know what a paradox is : if we love till it hurts , the pain will disappear and only love is left .”While Saint Padre Pio put it this way : “Let’s love pain ! The one who never suffered has no strong emotions, tenderness is missing from his heart, perspectives from his spirit. Why suffering ? So that the world grows dim , whilst heaven should be glowing !” Man is not deliberately looking for suffering, in fact does everything possible in order to avoid it. Christ was not looking for it on the way of the cross either , but when the time came emptied the chalice. He fell three times , got up amidst great pain , He did not carry His cross with a straight back and a Hollywood smile. His honour demanded of Him to accept the suffering , He tried to move on with human dignity. Even in this He was one of us , and showed us an example. Jesus did not redeem the world with His miracles and His great homilies , but with His suffering, with His death on the cross that He accepted for us out of love.

It is so great to say that, even if it hurts : “Look my Lord , I am here, I place my life into Your hand , teach and mould me . You know what is it that I need. Glorious beautiful days or perhaps a setback , an illness ? May Your holy name be blessed , I accept anything from Your hand . If You will it glorify Your holy name by my healing , but if You see it fit , like the gold in the fire , cleanse me as well in the furnace of setbacks, suffering, illness . “ It gives an enormous freedom , peace if someone willingly , with big-big humility dares to place oneself into God’s loving , kindhearted but determined hand.

Lord help me to be patient with life, with people and myself….at times I try to hurry along things too much and I am pressing for answers before the time has arrived. Lord teach me, to entrust to You until You see it that the time is right , and help me to accept that instead my will I can accept Your greater and wiser plan. Help me , to let life unfold slowly . Remind me that in every moment Your divine grace is present ..” help me to slow down , to learn to appreciate life and all that it holds in store for me ….Amen .
